Friday, September 11, 2026.- As is tradition, coinciding with the Diada Nacional de Catalunya, the Basilica of Santa Maria de Montserrat hosted the vesting ceremony for the new choirboys for the 2026-2027 academic year, held before the singing of the Salve and the Virolai.
In this edition, twelve new choirboys were vested to begin their journey in the choir: ten in 4th grade, one in 5th grade, and one in 6th grade. During the event, the prefect, the educators, and the rest of the choir members individually greeted their new companions. The ceremony concluded with the performance of the Salve and the Virolai by the entire choir, in a deeply moving moment shared with the children's families.
More than seven centuries of history and liturgical service
The Escolania de Montserrat is an integrated education center where students attend from 4th grade to 2nd year of secondary school (8th grade). Its curriculum combines general education with intense human, Christian, and musical training —all choirboys learn piano and a second instrument of their choice— as well as active participation in the Sanctuary's liturgical choir. For this academic year, 400 musical performances are scheduled in the basilica itself.
In addition to its usual activities on the mountain of Montserrat, the Escolania will offer 14 performances outside the monastery, including concerts and other events in various Catalan towns.
A major highlight of this year's tour is the trip to the Philippines, where the choir will take part in the commemoration of the centenary of the dedication of the Church of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat in Manila, a temple founded by the Catalan community 130 years ago. The detailed schedule of external performances will be made public soon on the Escolania's social media channels.
The Escolania invites all families with children aged 7 to 9 who enjoy singing to discover its educational and musical project. All information regarding the admissions process and contact steps can be found in the "Canta amb nosaltres" section of its official website.
