All Saints' Day

Today we join together in the celebration of All Saints' Day.

Abadía de Montserrat - EN 27 October 2026
Sunday, November 1, 2026.- Today, from the community of Abadia de Montserrat, we join the universal Church in celebrating the Solemnity of All Saints. A day on which we commemorate the witness of all those men and women, both known and anonymous from all times and places, who already share in the fullness of God's life.

The roots of this celebration date back to the first centuries of Christianity: as early as the 4th century, the liturgical memory of the martyrs is attested in both the East and the West. Later, in the year 610, the Pantheon in Rome was consecrated under the invocation of Saint Mary and All Saints. However, it was not until the 8th century that Pope Gregory III fixed the date of November 1st, upon consecrating a chapel in Saint Peter's Basilica dedicated to the relics of the Apostles, martyrs, confessors, and all the just who rest in peace throughout the world. By the time of Charlemagne, this solemnity was widely spread and firmly established.
